The large acreage of the Spanish land grant from the late 1700s initially included the region, which was eventually purchased by the state in the 1840s. How to Get to Bright Leaf Preserve

From the downtown area, head south on I-35 and take the 290 East exit towards Manor. Continue on Manor Road until you get to the intersection with Highway 71, then take a left onto Highway 71 and drive east for approximately 7 miles. At this point, look for the entrance to the Bright Leaf Preserve on the right side of the highway. The preserve’s parking lot will be clearly visible.
